Within a building dating from 1722, this is a rare surviving example of Lisbon's pre-earthquake architecture. The extensive restoration project was recently featured in several architectural magazines – and the end result is nothing short of breathtaking, with stripped-back vaulted ceilings, wood floors, shuttered windows, and traditional tiling around the skirting boards. Designed in a fun and unique way, the old stone walls sit beside statement pieces of art and modern furniture. We particularly love the kitchen, with its unusual stainless steel island, and the striking bathrooms. Fans of interior design will find the huge bathtub (we hear it comfortably fits two) beside the old fireplace a great talking point. Set in a quiet part of the city, it's easy to get around from here and there are all sorts of excellent places to eat and drink nearby.
