The hills around Florence are some of the most gorgeous in the world, and Emerald Roll does them justice. It’s a beautiful villa, with views across the rolling landscape and the whole city. You can see all that from the photos. There’s also a couple who live in a private section of the villa, and take care of it and the grounds, as well as preparing breakfast every morning (other meals are also possible, but at an extra cost).

Home truths
It takes about twenty minutes to reach the villa from the station
When we tested the wi-fi, it was very slow (only 2Mbps)
There are a couple of housekeepers who live in private quarters – they're around to clean, and generally look after the place, but you can also arrange for them to cook traditional meals for you (for a small fee, of course)
There are several cats in the neighbourhood that like to hang around in the garden – worth knowing about if you have allergies
Checking in after 8pm will incur an €80 charge
