Once you’ve arrived at The Farrier, you feel completely removed from the bustle of everyday life. The setting, in the middle of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offers a really quiet and serene environment to relax in, but driving there from London only takes around an hour. There are a few aspects of the home that show its age and use, but you’ve got to remember that it’s a working farmhouse (the estate looks after horses), and the host, Gabriella, will do everything possible to ensure you have a wonderful stay.

Home truths

The remote location means that you'd be best off with a car during your stay

None of the bedrooms have any mirrors in them

As you might expect from a house with such character, there are a few scuff marks and some cracked paintwork, and some of the floorboards creak

The ceiling slopes down in the loft conversion, and might be a problem if taller guests are staying there

About The High Weald

The fourth largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales, it’s one of our most ancient landscapes and covers an area of nearly 1,500 square kilometres across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey. Simply put, it’s the huge, mostly flat part of the south east that fits neatly in between the hills of the North and South Downs. Taken from the Old English word ‘wald’, meaning forest,...
