Based in the tiny village of Chediston, this 19th-century barn sits on a former Suffolk farm. With over forty acres of beautiful countryside to explore quite literally on your doorstep, it's the ideal base for ramblers – just lace up your boots, head out the door and you'll be roaming the farmland in no time. When you want to soak up the sunshine and rest your legs, relax in the blooming front garden and listen to the birdsong. It's peaceful and pretty, an excellent spot for afternoon teas and twilight cocktails. Inside, all the rustic character has been lovingly preserved – from the wooden beams and exposed stone walls to the traditional stable door. A crackling wood-burner keeps the living area snuggly warm during the winter months, while the hand-built farmhouse kitchen makes cooking an utter joy. End the day with a soak in the roll-top bath before nodding off under the beamed A-frame ceilings upstairs. This location is the perfect balance between countryside and coast. A five-minute drive away is Halesworth – a market town with traditional shops and architecture that dates back to the 16th-century – while Southwold's collection of seafood restaurants, seaside boutiques and sandy and shingle beaches are reachable in twenty.

There’s a sedate way of life here and there’s nowhere better to appreciate that than the town’s Thoroughfare, a partly pedestrianised area at the heart of Halesworth. Here you...
