Hit rest and reset at this palatial period farmhouse tucked away in the sleepy East Sussex village of Warbleton and less than half an hour from the coast. From the outside, the turrets of this grand twin roundel oast house look straight out of a fairy tale, complete with manicured lawns and topiary hedges just like you’d imagine your country pile to be. Step inside, it only gets more charming. Beneath the high, vaulted ceilings and original wood beams, there’s room for you to all spill out, including a separate annex across from the main house with a bedroom and smart en-suite for two guests seeking a little extra privacy. Kids (and big kids) can crash out in the games room complete with table football and games console or play table tennis in the outside barn space while adults gather around the dining table for wine and catch-ups. Or take things alfresco onto the terrace to fire up the barbecue as the kids and furry friends alike run amuck on the vast lawns or play on the swings and trampoline. Should you fancy a change of scene (doubtful), the well-heeled market town of Heathfield with its cafes and shops (an eight-minute drive) will do nicely. Or up the ante with hiking in the surrounding countryside – it’s an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for good reason. And, of course, there’s always the coast for beach days and obligatory fish and chips – Pevensey Bay gets our vote.
