Amsterdam’s canals may be the obvious choice for a water-bound getaway in the Netherlands, but we think this home on the banks of the Oesterdam is fierce competition. Designed by Dutch architect Piet Boon, the interior design is kept deliberately sparse in order to make the most of the breathtaking surroundings. A huge window opens the entire front of the home to a view over the sand dunes, and less than a minute's walk will have you on the shores gazing out over the still waters. Rent a boat or a bicycle from the resort centre to explore, or just sip a cold beer on the terrace as the calm of the evening draws in.
