Escape the outside world at this glorious cottage retreat squirreled away in the wilds of the Cambridgeshire countryside. Voyaging through winding lanes leading to this secluded home, you could feel a million miles from anywhere here. But when it’s time to meet the locals, mosey into the charming village of Colne (five minutes on foot) with its village green, playground and traditional pub for hearty grub and a warm welcome. Or up the pace with an afternoon exploring Cambridge’s historic streets (half-an-hour drive). Back at home, though this may be cottage living, there’s nothing twee about the inside of this newly built, stylish abode. There’s heaps of space and all the creature comforts you could need. Long summer evenings call for sundowners beside the firepit as the birds strike up their evening chorus. Kids and furry friends alike can run amuck in half an acre of private grounds dotted with apple trees – and if you keep them quiet for long enough, you may even spot a deer trot by. Wintery nights are all about getting toasty inside beside the wood burner as you soak up the views through the floor-to-ceiling bi-fold doors. Break out the board games (or console, if that’s more your style), then hunker down for a cosy film night. And when it’s finally time to catch some Zs in the serene bedrooms, only the occasional hoot of an owl could disturb you here.

About Cambridgeshire

Awash with tradition and history, it's easy to believe that this region revolves around scholarly Cambridge and its namesake university. There's also the rambling countryside to the south and lush Fenlands to the north, boasting timeless scenery and...
