Built back in 1835, this cottage in the Norfolk town of Holt is approaching its 200th birthday, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the contemporary interior. The soothing palette of muted greys and chic furnishings are completely in keeping with the 21st century rather than the 19th, save for an eclectic collection of curios and mementoes on the shelves. Arguably the home's best feature is a modern addition – the conservatory is blessed with natural light and is a lovely place to enjoy dinner regardless of the season. It also gives you a view of the back garden, which has another table plus a charcoal barbecue ready and waiting for summer evening feasts. One thing that hasn't changed in the years since the house has been standing is the quality of the location. The Georgian architecture of Holt is lovely to wander about and there are shops, cafes and art galleries with which to fill up your afternoon. Further afield, the rugged Norfolk coastline isn't too far away – Salthouse Beach takes ten minutes to reach in the car.
