Steeped in Hollywood history, this whimsical home is truly one of a kind. The castle was originally built in the 1930s and sits almost at the top of Wonderland Avenue – a very apt location for such a dreamy house – in Laurel Canyon. It has been lovingly restored and is overflowing with traditional charm and luxury details. Just imagine sipping your coffee in a turret, wandering among the flowering bougainvillea, and sleeping under a domed ceiling. There's also an impressive swimming pool offering respite from the Californian sun, a glamorous marble steam shower to relax under, and a fire pit where you can gather after dark. If you fancy living as a Disney prince or princess for a few days, you won't find a better kingdom than this one.

Home truths

There are some steps to the house and in between rooms, so it might not suit those with limited mobility

There aren't curtains or blinds on some windows in the master bedroom, so some light will come in each morning

A steep and winding road takes you up to the house – you'll probably want a car for ease of access

The hills and the slowly swaying eucalyptus trees seem to protect the peaceful neighbourhood’s residents from the bedlam of West Hollywood below. In the 1960s and 70s, this solitude and natural beauty...

Host

This home is managed by Debra

This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Debra splits her time between homes in Oregon, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Her family have enjoyed this home for decades, but have only recently renovated it. Renovating was a painstaking process, taking almost two years. But all the hard work is reflected in the finished product and she's thrilled with the result. She loves knowing that you're just far enough to feel removed from the stress and noise of the city, while it's still on your doorstep should you want to explore.
