La Chambre Claire grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. From the street outside (the majestic Via del Babuino) through the living room with its brick arch, the carved fireplace, and all the way up to the views of the Villa de’ Medici, it goes beyond what one might reasonably expect. Even looking past the overall impression, each little detail is impressive – the bust tucked away among the leaves, for example. This stretch between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo is full of tourists, but the rewards outweigh that.

Home truths
The doors to the lift are extremely narrow (we measured 64cm)
The bed in the third bedroom is up against the wall on one side
When we visited, the wi-fi was only 7Mbps
The windows are quite high in the second and third bedrooms, so you can't really see out of them for a view
There's a sofa bed for one person to stay upstairs, but as it's on the way out to the terrace, it's a slightly strange place to sleep
Checking in after 8pm will incur an €80 charge
