Once home to a boutique hotel, the house is now a holiday rental that features all ensuite bedrooms with spa-like bathrooms offering REN toiletries. The large reception living areas reveal plenty of space for large groups to socialise together – meet for cocktails in the bar area, or gather around one of the big screens for a movie night in. We particularly love the quirky dining room which seats up to eighteen guests – ideal for hosting dinner parties and celebrating special occasions. Relax out in the terrace garden on a sunny day for a barbecue or soak in the hot tub. Once you've taken everything in from inside the home, step out of the front door and lap up the never-ending esplanade that stretches in either direction across the beachfront. As you saunter around the local neighbourhood of St Leonards you'll find an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants within easy reach. Linger Awhile, Plum Guide home in Sussex, UK

Click to book Linger Awhile now: from £200 per night Located right in the heart of Arundel, this Victorian townhouse has stunning views over the castle and Gothic cathedral. Originally designed and built by Joseph Hansom (architect behind Arundel Cathedral), it’s been renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated. Modern gadgets like a flatscreen smart TV and slick wine fridge are seamlessly incorporated into the decor alongside original fireplaces, windows and chandelier-hung ceiling roses. We loved the mix of furniture, with individual pieces specially selected to fit each room, as well as the charming courtyard garden. Overall, we felt the home was warm, inviting, comfortable and very clean. Arundel is quaint and traditional with decent shops, art galleries, pubs and coffee shops (we can recommend the brunch at Motte and Bailey). Close to the river Avon and good walks in the nearby South Downs, the town is also just a few minutes’ drive to great spots on the South Coast – less than 20 to Worthing; 40 into Brighton. This is a lovely option for a family looking to linger for a while and enjoy a slower pace of life, within easy driving distance of the seaside. Sleeps up to 8 | 4 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms

We loved the original features (like the sash windows, fireplaces and bakers’ oven); good-size modern kitchen, with a central island for chatting over a glass of wine; king-size beds with crisp, fresh linens; and the sweet courtyard garden: a real little sun trap. The home's location, right in the heart of the town of Arundel, gives easy access to coffee shops, pubs and independent shops – particularly for those who love browsing for art and antiques – as well as stunning views over the famous castle as well.
