The Manor Stables
Click to book The Manor Stables now: from £170 per night Always fantasized about being Lord or Lady of the Manor? Well, now you can be, sort of. This historic stable building (dating back to 1900) is part of a family estate located in the Dorset village of Hinton St Mary. Along with the estate’s gatehouse (also available on Plum Guide), it's been recently refurbished and is accessible to outsiders for the first time. We loved the balance between period features and brand new additions, like the shiny bathroom and kitchen gadgets. Everything is finished in the best possible taste, with some lovely personal touches. The owners clearly want their new guests to feel at home, as they’re happy to accommodate needs, whims and fancies, from arranging a paid-for chef or babysitter, to offering a choice of seasonal duvets, luggage storage, locally sourced ingredients in the welcome pack and everything you’d need to bring your baby (high chair, cot, dinnerware, pram, potty, etc). The home’s location is another definite selling point. At the end of a small village lane, near a cricket green and traditional pub, it’s picturesque and quaint. The nearest town is Sturminster Newton where there are plenty of shops and cafes, a great deli and butchers. This home makes a great base to explore the famous Dorset coast and countryside or simply settle back and relax by the wood-burning stove and imagine your servants are just out of sight. Sleeps up to 4 | 2 Bedrooms | 1 Bathroom
Click to book Horsing Around now: from £100 per night If there's anything more romantic than this adorable converted horse box with glorious views of the rolling Somerset countryside, we want to hear about it. Lovingly transformed into a cosy home with rustic yet stylish furnishings, quirky but compact Horsing Around brings together the joys of camping (fresh air, barbecue dinners, stargazing till late) with the comfort of a boutique hotel room (think plush bed and sofa, contemporary soft furnishings and vases of freshly cut flowers). But outside is really where the magic happens here. By day, pick fresh herbs from the garden - literally - at your front door to season your picnic sandwiches, best enjoyed down by the tree-dappled pond. And at night we can't think of anything better than reclining on the rattan sofa and admiring those idyllic views with a chilled glass of wine as the sun goes down. Bliss. Sleeps up to 3 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom

The large kitchen is the heart of the home, with a beautifully restored AGA offering post-walk warmth on cold winter days. Elsewhere, the rest of the downstairs is split up into several rooms large enough for everyone to come together, with enough options to find a corner to call your own should you wish. The kitchen conservatory is the first of the contemporary spaces – it's perfect for summer living with its floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and dining area looking out over the rolling countryside. While the garden conservatory offers much the same but in a smaller form. Upstairs, the cosy bedrooms are decorated with floral print wallpaper, super-soft throws, and armchairs where space allows. The master bedroom even manages to fit an elegant freestanding bath alongside the dressing table. Outside, a terraced garden is spread over various levels, complete with a croquet lawn and even a mature woodland.
