Dracup's Railway Cottage

Dracup's Railway Cottage, Plum Guide home in Shropshire, UK

Dracup's Railway Cottage, Plum Guide home in Shropshire, UK

Click to book Dracup's Railway Cottage now: from £500 per night This former railwayman’s cottage was turned into a masterpiece by artist Antony Dracup, who lived here between 1980 and 2000, and has been lovingly restored by the current owners. Stepping into the living room is a trip back to the 1940s where an art nouveau light illuminates the refurbished sofa bed and vintage wall art. Through the ‘Station Master’ door, you’ll find a Great Western Railway inspired kitchen with a handcrafted table and benches beneath a skylight, so it feels as though you’re dining outside. We love the ‘Knight’s Cavern’ – a catacombed room hewn into the rock, now adorned with medieval paraphernalia and providing additional dining space at the solid wood table. Upstairs is the second big surprise – the ‘Art Room’ where Dracup’s mural of Bridgnorth and the surrounding area covers the walls and a single swivel chair lets you admire every inch of it. The bedroom, with its raw wood bed, wouldn’t look out of place in Lord of the Rings and even the bathroom has quirky features – an imitation 1920s boiler, exposed pipes and subway tiles. This cottage is certainly one of a kind. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
