Where to stay near Dockweiler State Beach, Los Angeles
Here is our pick of the top 5 vacation rentals. Make your choice and treat yourself to a luxury stay.
Breakwater
Click to book Breakwater now: from £1995 per night Even though it has a bit of a New England feel to it (more on that later), as soon as you step outside, there’s no doubt Breakwater is in Santa Monica. It’s on a hidden walkway, off the main road, and is only a block away from the beach, and a ten-minute walk from the pier. The interior has been designed to feel beachy but in a way you’d associate more with the East Coast, rather than the West – think A-frames, fireplaces and soft pastels. Sleeps up to 8 | 4 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms
The Art Oceanfront
Click to book The Art Oceanfront now: from £400 per night We fell in love with this home based on the location alone, even before crossing the threshold. Just a stone's throw from the beach, you can easily jump in the ocean before breakfast. You're conveniently located just one block from Main St, where you'll find indie boutiques, charming cafes and Michelin-recognised restaurants. The home itself is equally breathtaking – we adore the double-height living space with a sea view. It's exceptionally stylish, brimming with character. The amount of art hanging on the walls would put some galleries to shame. It's definitely a home that makes you want to know its owners – a truly unique place to stay and one that's ready for its Instagram close-up. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
The Dwelling
Click to book The Dwelling now: from £179 per night Sometimes we come across understated homes with extraordinary hosts, escalating our experience ten-fold. This is one of those gems. Your hosts live next door, ensuring you're all set up with craft beer, tea, coffee, and bikes should you want to explore. Double french doors invite you to spread out from the cosy interior to the grassy lawn, complete with a fire pit and hanging daybed. The wood-decked terrace is set up with loungers, a gas grill and a dining table for a feast under the stars. Inside, it’s an eclectic array of mosaic tiles in the kitchen and a towering bookshelf in the living room, stuffed with board games, books and viny for the record player. It’s just a five-minute drive or half-hour saunter to the buzzing boardwalk of Venice Beach. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
Dark Soul, Sunny Skies
Click to book Dark Soul, Sunny Skies now: from £541 per night Sure, when you think of LA you think sun, sea, sand and smiles. But the coolest places in the City of Angels have a touch of edginess and drama to them. Case in point? This neat home near Playa Del Ray, with its effortless industrial-chic detailing and monochromatic scheme. We particularly love the soft grey and dark slate contrasting paintwork in the living room. The space is given a flash of Cali warmth courtesy of a neon cactus print. The high-spec kitchen, with its rich, dark wood cabinetry, has everything you need to put together a top-notch feast. And the bedroom stays true to the rest of the home's colour scheme with a charcoal statement wall. If achieving that California tan is a priority for you, then spend an afternoon poolside at the communal pool. There's also a gym to keep up your fitness routine, as well as indoor parking, a barbecue area and a dog run. This home's location is hard to beat too - a stay here means you’re within a short distance to all of the city's top beaches (think Venice, Manhattan, Hermosa). It's LA, but not as you know it. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
Plank Den
Click to book Plank Den now: from £235 per night This fabulously soulful studio apartment won us over the minute we crossed the threshold. It feels fresh and modern inside, packed with character, and has a delightful jungle garden. We love the reclaimed wood sliding doors that separate the calming bedroom from the rest of the living space. The creative, self-build spirit of the doors continues in the shared outdoor space, with its use of corrugated steel panels to divide the area, homemade garden furniture and even an artist studio caravan. Exploring the neighbourhood on foot couldn't be easier – it's a mere fifteen-minute amble to the beach and even closer to Abbott Kinney Boulevard, with all its hip shops and eateries, while there are bikes for you to explore further. So, while it's true that Venice is undergoing a bit of a transformation, your hosts are striving to keep Venice weird. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
