Built in 1929, this three-bedroom home combines characterful design elements such as wooden ceiling beams and moorish tiling with luxurious touches: think a private hot tub, a restaurant-quality ‘La Canche’ French stove and an enchanting bedroom set in its very own tower – Rapunzel, eat your heart out. Not only will you sleep wonderfully but taller guests will surely appreciate the extra inches. Of course, the home has also been immaculately designed to create comfort and style for a relaxing trip. Located in Alhambra, you're just a short drive from Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Stadium. Downtown LA is about ten miles away, but thanks to Interstate 10, you can be there in just fifteen minutes. Smoked Brass

Click to book Smoked Brass now: from £2000 per night Smoked Brass is a bit of an all-round gem. Dating back to the 1920s, it’s designed as a space to live in, rather than an art installation to be admired, and as such, it’s a very comfortable space. And while pools aren’t uncommon in these parts, this one was particularly delightful. Pasadena’s a different prospect to some of LA’s glitzier areas, generally quieter and more residential. Downtown’s a while away, but the local area has everything you need. Sleeps up to 7 | 3 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms

Champagne High

Champagne High, Plum Guide home in Los Angeles

Click to book Champagne High now: from £220 per night We’re big fans of downtown LA. A walkable destination dotted with museums, beautiful buildings and superb restaurants, it’s had a real resurgence in recent years and we’re on board. You’ll find this sleek apartment right in the middle of the action. Cool and contemporary, with a gourmet kitchen, private balcony and fabulous views of the city skyline, it’s exactly the kind of place we can imagine basing ourselves for a stay in the city. The building’s facilities aren’t too shabby either. Start your days with a dip in the heated outdoor pool, break a sweat in the gym or get your downward dog on in the wellness centre. Then get out there and explore the city. You’ve got the best of DTLA within a few blocks (STAPLES Centre, L.A. LIVE and the West Walt Disney Concert Hall for starters) so you’ll never be short of something to do. Come sundown, pour a glass and pull up a chair by the chic outdoor firepit, or take your pick from the area’s stellar drinking and dining destinations. Sleeps up to 3 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom

Silver Shell

Silver Shell, Plum Guide home in Los Angeles

Click to book Silver Shell now: from £250 per night Climb a set of steps through lush gardens to this eccentric home overlooking Silver Lake, one of L.A’s trendiest neighbourhoods. But before you head inside, become acquainted with Yortoise the giant tortoise who lives in the undergrowth and Chouchou the fluffy cat who likes to doze in the sunshine. The terrace has a Moroccan-inspired seating area with barbecue, flourishing vegetable patch and a hammock amid the jungle-like vegetation. The interiors are a charming mix of homespun and stylish designs. A bright living area leads onto a balcony, offering unfettered views of the Griffith Observatory and beyond. Our favourite space was the master bedroom – we loved the cerulean blue feature wall and the direct access to the patio with its giant bird of paradise, variety of succulents and pomegranate tree where squirrels scurry and birds sing. On warm summer’s days, take a twenty-minute walk to the shores of Silver Lake Reservoir, followed by an ice-cold drink at the hip bars and cafes on Sunset Boulevard, a twenty-five-minute stroll from your home. Sleeps up to 5 | 3 Bedrooms | 2 Bathrooms
