Fit for a Queen, Aberdeenshire, UK

The outdoor fire pit at Fit for a Queen, Plum Guide home in Aberdeenshire, UK

Click to book Fit for a Queen now: from £500 per night On the banks of a secluded loch near Aboyne, this beautiful cabin comes with a beautiful story. It was originally built in the 1920s by Viscountess Cowdray, a close friend of Queen Mary. Choosing it as the perfect spot between her home and the royal estate at Balmoral, it was built so the two women could regularly meet and take tea by the water together. Sitting here, in the peaceful Aberdeenshire countryside, it's not hard to see what attracted them. The setting, overlooking the loch, and surrounded by tall pines is a truly inspirational one, and whether you're here in the middle of summer or the winter, the views from the home are second to none. Despite its rustic charm and rough Scots pine exterior, the cabin has been renovated to create a luxurious home, with antique furnishings, a log fire and vintage art. There's a modern country-style kitchen with everything you could need and two comfortable bedrooms. And who wouldn't fall in love with the huge freestanding copper bathtub in the master bedroom? Outside, hike in the woods, swim from the little jetty, fish in the nearby River Dee or watch wildlife from the veranda – visitors regularly see deer and osprey by the loch. And despite its private setting, this amazing place is just a fifteen-minute walk from the village pub across the river. Sleeps up to 4 | 2 Bedrooms | 2 Bathrooms

Georgian Blushes, Somerset, UK

Click to book Georgian Blushes now: from £564 per night You'll find this handsome villa standing proudly in the well-heeled residential district of Bathwick. Commanding incredible views of the city of Bath, just a twenty-minute walk away, it's easy to see why this neighbourhood is so sought-after. But don't be deceived by the typically Georgian façade of this home. Inside, unexpected bursts of colour and curiosities add layers of warmth and a joyful atmosphere. Upstairs, it's a more muted affair with cosy, cream-hued serene bedrooms that allow those city vistas to speak for themselves. By day, come together around the long dining table for memorable breakfast times beneath the high vaulted ceilings – there's room for you all. Then pad out into the garden and find a sunny spot to savour that second coffee (you are on holiday, after all) while kids let off steam (there's a trampoline and netball hoop to keep them busy). At dusk, climb the winding staircase to the impressive roof terrace to fire up the barbecue and watch Bath's lights begin to twinkle in the distance. In winter months, spill out into the large sitting room for movie nights and a cheeky cocktail – there's a bar stocked with spirits from all around the world. When it's time to spread your wings, mosey down to the centre of Bath, or jump in the car, and you'll be there in six minutes flat. Sleeps up to 8 | 4 Bedrooms | 6 Bathrooms

Casa de Cotswolds, Cotswolds, UK

Click to book Casa de Cotswolds now: from £200 per night Wood ceiling beams, a log-burning fireplace, exposed stonework and no shortage of comfy sofas — at first glance, this home has all the hallmarks of a traditional countryside cottage, the sort of place where you spend evenings getting toasty and resting limbs sore from hill-walking. However, as they so often say, appearances can be deceptive. Head out the back door and you'll come across an elegant terrace that wouldn't look out of place in a Mediterranean villa. Here, you can gather around the firepit, enjoy feasts cooked up on the barbecue out on the large dining table or have a moonlit dip in the hot tub. If the weather's not playing ball, there are three living rooms and an indoor dining area that benefits from a bi-fold glass door taking up one side of the room. Of course, seeing as you're on holiday, you might not feel like cooking at all. In which case, you'll be glad to hear that there's a gastro-pub at the end of the road, as well as two more in the next two villages over — both reached in about half an hour's walk. Sleeps up to 10 | 4 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms

Shingle Beach, Hampshire, UK

Click to book Shingle Beach now: from £157 per night With the preponderance of wood in the walls and furnishings, as well as the chalet-style kitchen and warm lighting throughout, there's a distinct Americana style to this recently converted home. However, it's actually to be found right on England's south coast and the seaside at the village of Milford-On-Sea can be reached in just five minutes in the car. Despite this proximity to the coast, the cabin is more rural in feel. For a start, it's located down a quiet country lane and there's a large garden surrounding complete with fruit trees — which guests are welcome to pick at the right time of year. Out among this manicured outside space, there's also a barbecue and a fire pit that will see you through long summer evenings. When you want to more of the charming locale, there's a pair of bicycles that guests are free to borrow. Hurst Castle takes just over twenty-five minutes to reach if you're feeling like a bit of a challenge and there are plenty of nearby pubs to reward yourselves with well-earned liquid refreshment. Sleeps up to 2 | 1 Bedroom | 1 Bathroom
