Top 20 NOT IN USE - Monteverde (Vecchio & Nuovo), Rome vacation rentals & luxury serviced apartments

Set above the bustle of Trastevere is the residential area of Monteverde. The name means 'green mountain' and so predictably it is one of the most verdant parts of the city, dominated by the grand swathe of the Doria Pamphilj gardens. Closer to the city sit the elegant 20th century villas of Monteverde Vecchio, occupied by the wealthy middle class who enjoy the space and quiet offered away from the hubbub of Rome, as well as stunning views. Slightly further out are the newer high rises that make up Monteverde Nuovo, mostly built in the last 50 years. Monteverde is a vision of Rome without the tourists, offering an opportunity to live and shop as the Romans do - the vegetable markets have significantly lower prices than those in the historic Campo de' Fiori. Trams can whisk you back into the centre of the city in no time, but if you're enjoying the peace, look further out and wander through the park to Cesare al Casaletto, commonly credited by Romans as serving the best fritti in town.
