Nestled into a square in the charming village of Tremadog, just a ten-minute walk from Porthmadog, this Grade II listed building makes for the perfect North Wales getaway. With Snowdonia National Park and its endless quaint towns, beaches, hiking trails, and historical sights on your doorstep, this cottage is a wonderful choice whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure. 

This home is one that lends itself to any occasion. Rich colours, exposed brick, and traditional touches make the living room cosy and inviting – you’ll love settling into the snug armchairs in the morning, with the light piercing through the windows, while the warming log-burning fire cuts through the early cold. Your kitchen is just as cosy and comforting, but it’s also practical. It’s kitted out with top-notch appliances that make home-cooked meals a breeze, while the dining room invites family and friends to settle in for light-hearted evenings of good food, games, drinks, and conversation. 

French doors lead you out to the charming patio, which is particularly lovely in the warmer months. And while even summer can’t promise warm weather in Wales, the hot tub is sure to warm you up. You’ll love kicking off your walking boots, jumping into the bubbly tub, and sipping on a few wines after a day of exploring Snowdonia National Park. 

Hills of Bell Heather

Sat atop a hill at the foot of Snowdonia National Park, this 400 year old stone cottage has been lovingly renovated to create a comfortable retreat packed full of countryside charm. Inside, original ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Look forward to spending blustery days holed up in the cosy living space before sitting down to a home-cooked roast dinner in the farmhouse-style kitchen. 

When the sun makes an appearance, spill out into the garden with a jug of Pimm’s and admire your unspoilt surroundings from the picnic bench. If you’d like to expend some energy, lace up your hiking shoes and follow one of many bridleways that unfold from your doorstep. Should a beach day be on the cards, Black Rock Sands Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away. 

After a day of sea swims and windswept coastal walks, nip into the town of Porthmadog for fish and chips by the harbour and a well-deserved pint in a traditional pub.

Home on the Hilltop

Tucked away in the historic mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this slate cottage is a cosy bolthole for a couple or young family. Inside, a yellow and grey colour scheme feels thoroughly modern while exposed stone serves as a reminder of the home’s heritage. Look forward to starting your day in the open-plan living space –perch at the breakfast bar with a round of buttery toast and a mug of tea before curling up in front of the roaring log burner with a good book. 

Spend sunny afternoons traversing Snowdonia National Park, right on your doorstep, or grab your seaside essentials and take the thirty-minute drive to Criccieth Beach. When you start to feel peckish, head back to your locale for some slap-up pub grub at the Meirion Vaults. 

Carnedd Llewelyn

Gaze out over Cader Idris and the surrounding countryside from this charming mid-Wales cottage. Its location at the head of the Dyfi Estuary makes it perfect for those looking to get away from it all with friends or family while also offering easy access to the market town of Machynlleth, 4 miles away. Lined with local shops, captivating cafes and host to a local weekly market, there's plenty to see and do. 

While the town holds a special place in Welsh history as the seat of Owain Glyndŵr's Welsh Parliament, today, it is perhaps best known as the home of the Machynlleth Comedy Festival – a side-splitting celebration of all things hilarious held over a few days each spring.

With rolling green fields, an enclosed garden, and easy access to the mountains and the sea (the beaches of Cardigan Bay are 14 miles away), life here is all about embracing the outdoors – whatever the weather. After a day spent hiking through the hills or cycling along remote tracks that lead directly from your doorstep, you'll be embraced by the welcoming atmosphere of this home away from home and the promise of a warming fire.

Just For Laughs

Quiet and secluded, but just a fifteen-minute walk from popular Corris, this lovely lodge has been completely refurbished to create a comfortable rural home. The owners, James and Sophie, live up at the main house and they've put a great deal of care into it. Heated with a ground source heat pump, laid out using the rules of Feng Shui and designed to be as cosy and welcoming as possible, this place will appeal to keen cyclists, walkers and those of us who just want to escape for a bit. Surrounded by pine forest, with a river running opposite, it's in the Dyfi Valley, with the Dyfi bike park just a ten-minute drive. A traditional slate building, the inside is modern and practical. Cosy up on the sofas in front of the fire (a basket of logs is provided), cook in the smart kitchen and eat at the contemporary dining table – it's all one sociable space. There's a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor, with two more upstairs with sloping ceilings and skylights. In the summer, step out onto your patio with a cup of coffee each morning and just listen to the birds. A short walk away there's a public park – perfect for dog walks – and you can stroll into town to the cafe and pub.  

Fronwen Lodge

Glimpse across the green at the sea views beyond, and you’ll understand why this home made it into our collection. Perfect for a coastal family retreat, this fuss-free bungalow has everything needed for a relaxing stay – just be prepared to see a neighbour or two, as it's set on the Glyn y Weddw estate and surrounded by other homes. For days out locally, a short walk will take you to Llanbedrog's renowned National Trust beach with its pretty huts and a great selection of eateries to indulge in some local cuisine. 

Wild Flowers by the Sea

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in the lawn chair. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area. Stop off at the drive-thru about ten minutes away to refuel before hiking the very whimsically-named trial of The Mountain Goat Adventures. 

The Valley Barn

This stately manor sits on the outskirts of Dolgellau, offering market-town charm and nearby amenities in the Snowdonia National Park. A grand home for family get-togethers, this building steeped in political history, now serves as a contemporary retreat for the whole group – and your furry friends. A games room awaits, as well as outdoor seating spots and a hot tub in the garden. While the local shop a stroll away is a handy bonus, cars are necessary for visits to Cadair Idris mountain and hikes along the popular Mawddach Trail.

The Olde Abode

This handsome stone barn conversion, commanding magnificent sea views and perched less than a mile from the bustling seaside village of Aberdaron, has undergone quite the transformation since its humble farm beginnings. Inside, the owners have held onto those original lofty oak beams, while everywhere else has been carefully reimagined for modern living.

Hunker down beside the snug room's roaring woodburner with a cuppa or spill out into the light-filled, open-plan living space for board game marathons around the dining table. Wherever you choose to be, those jaw-dropping views will be right there with you. But if the weather's fine, you'll want to be outdoors, soaking up those timeless views of the rolling farmlands and glistening Aberdaron Bay from the spilt-level patio as you fire up the barbecue. 

When the sea finally calls, pack up your buckets and spades for a day at Aberdaron dog-friendly beach – less than a mile from your door. Should tummies begin to rumble, you'll find some of the freshest seafood imaginable at the village's takeaway fish bar – this area is renowned for its fish, lobster, and crab. Then voyage along the coastal paths of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or hop on a boat to Bardsey Island (from nearby Porth Meudwy) and spot the local puffins and their seal friends along the way. 

Puffins & Friends

If you're a keen birdwatcher, you'll love this home's location on the banks of Foryd Bay, a nature reserve in North Wales that sees huge numbers of different species migrate to the area for winter. However, even if your interest in wildlife is less obsessive, we're sure you'll still fall for the sweeping views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia in the other direction. The cottage is certainly geared up for just sitting back and marvelling at nature, with huge windows in the living room, as well as a roof terrace and a hot tub in the enclosed garden facing the water for when the weather's more agreeable. When the sun's gone down, you'll find this home the epitome of cosiness, especially with the fireplace crackling away and the whole party snuggled up on the comfy sofas surrounding. Although you'll find the immediate surroundings beautifully tranquil, there's plenty of action nearby if you seek it. Dinas Beach is only ten minutes away in the car, while the world's fastest zip line can be enjoyed — or not — at Zip World Penrhyn Valley, just over half an hour's drive away.

The Twitcher

Bristling with off-beat rustic charm, this cosy restored stone barn nearby the stunning Berwyn Mountains is the perfect place to explore the Welsh countryside. And while its stone walls and exposed beams offer a certain old-world appeal, underfloor heating and fast broadband ensure this home has modern trappings too.

Wake up among the sheep, cows, and birds, and start your day dining alfresco on the outside terrace (perhaps grilling something delicious up on the barbecue) and soaking in those magnificent mountain views. Nearby, you can hike and cycle to your heart's content around the Welsh countryside. 

If you’re feeling adventurous, the entrance to Snowdonia National Park is only a fifteen-minute drive away, while a forty-minute drive will take you right to mighty Snowdon mountain itself. South of Snowdon mountain, you can conquer the peaks of Cader Idris, Aran Fawddwy, and Berwyn – all under an hour's drive away. Meanwhile, the gorgeous Lake Bala and the nearby village of Bala are only ten minutes away by car.

At night, settle down by the fire pit and enjoy those clear, peaceful skies, before snuggling down inside onto the couch with a warming brew and if you can find it, a sweet slice of Bara birth – a traditional Welsh tea bread. 


Bike Barn

This charming restored barn is only a twenty-minute walk from Aberdaron. Surrounded by rolling green fields that stretch out to the sea, you won't be able to find a better place to bask in the coastal air. As soon as you arrive, make a beeline for the split-level patio and enjoy tea time and cocktail hours in the summer sunshine. From dawn to dusk, it's the perfect spot to sit back, relax and unwind from the stress of everyday life. On rainy days, head inside to the snug and watch a film as the fire crackles in the log burner. When you grow peckish, cook up a Welsh meal in the kitchen and share it with the whole family before retiring for the evening in one of the comfortable bedrooms.

When you're in the mood to venture out, it's just a mile or so down to the beach. In town, you'll find plenty of cafes, pubs and local shops to discover – and, considering this is an AONB, you'll no doubt enjoy exploring the scenic pathways and trekking along the coast. You can even hop on the boat to Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island) to spot seals, puffins and other local wildlife – it’s sure to be a hit with kids.
