Hidden beneath the owner's home above, this striking little place in the hills has the same unbelievable views across the city. Just above Sunset Boulevard, it's a fabulous location with easy access to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. A separate entrance and steps lead down to this private hideaway, which boasts not one but two balconies. Pretty much a studio home (a large partition divides the living and sleeping space), it's decorated in moody colours, giving a sense of drama, and glamorous furnishings fit the bill just right. Windows run the whole length of the southeast-facing wall, giving a panorama down through the hills and across the whole of LA. Out on the balconies, you can light the grill, sit down for alfresco meals and even lie back in the sun on the comfy lounger.

Home truths
As with all of LA, we recommend a car to get around – there's no private parking here but there's street parking nearby (the host will give you a parking permit to hang from your mirror)
Occasionally guests at this home have mistakenly parked in front of a neighbour's garage, so please take care where you leave your car
Unfortunately the pool above is out of bounds
