Set just a short drive from the hilltop town of Locorotondo, this 500-year-old trullo is a superb find for an authentic experience in Puglia. Lovingly restored by the architect owner, you’ll be staying in a home that’s steeped in history and you can admire the prehistoric building technique of these protected national monuments first-hand while enjoying the comforts of modern life. Made up entirely of limestone and whitewashed walls, the home provides a cool respite from the scorching Puglian sun. Take a swim in the private pool before drying off on a lounger, and an alfresco dining area on the sun terrace is perfect for sitting out and making the most of the long summer days and warm evenings. Air-conditioned bedrooms ensure a comfortable night’s sleep, and the charming traditional kitchen is perfectly equipped for rustling up meals made with the area’s famous fresh breads, olives, cheeses and fish. You’ll also be near the impressive town of Alberobello - a UNESCO world heritage site known for its narrow hilly streets lined with over 1500 Trulli - and of course a visit to the area’s excellent restaurants and osterias are a must for the perfect meal alongside a glass of Primitivo.

Home truths

The nearest restaurant and supermarket are 4km away so you’ll need a car to access the home and get around the area

Traditional trulli are designed with small windows to keep the space cool - they don't offer much of a view, and while it might feel a bit cavernous inside, there's beautiful scenery to be enjoyed outside

The twin beds in the second bedroom can be pushed together to create a double

The sofa is not the most comfortable to lounge and relax on and as seen in the photos, only two guest would fit on it
