Built 1902, this traditional gambrel home is a luxurious hideaway in East Hampton. Its past life is evident as soon as you step through the door: polished wooden floors run through the house, oak beams characterise the kitchen, and white French doors and sash windows open out to the rolling gardens. Bedrooms are a dreamy mix of antique furniture – we love lie-ins in the four-poster bed – and botany prints, though for little ones there might be a squabble for the final room with its white clapboard walls and ladder to a secret mezzanine. When you're not gathered around one of the plush sofas or in a dining room, the gardens need to be explored, from the swimming pool to the Wendy house and swing set. For the more adventurous, there are bikes and a paddle board for trips to the nearby East Hampton Beach.
