We never knew we'd be hankering after our very own defence tower until we checked out this historic home. Built in the 17th Century, or possibly even earlier, it provides a unique backdrop to a Balearic break. The thick walls keep the interior cool as a cucumber, even in high summer, and while the home’s heritage is clearly in evidence (think rugged beams and exposed stone), you won’t be short of modern comforts. Set over three floors, it's a Rapunzel's tower of a place, with a commanding view across the countryside. Outside you’re spoilt for places to relax, from the poolside loungers to the two outdoor dining areas. If it were us though, we’d shotgun the four-poster day bed for a light lunchtime drink and afternoon snoozes among the trees and flowers. At night, the pool and tower come to life with atmospheric lighting. Add to the effect with some twinkling candles, and sit out under the gnarled olive tree with your loved ones as the sky fills with stars. And, lovely as your rural location is, Ibiza’s beaches are close by – you’re just twenty minutes from the crystal-clear waters of Cala Gració.
