At the most easterly point of the Long Island Peninsula sits the picturesque town of Montauk. State parks, lakes, and beaches are dotted around this region, while the town itself boasts the oldest lighthouse in New York State. This structure knows a thing or two about bringing boats home safely, but just a ten-minute drive from here, your home’s location right on the beach could just as well serve as a lighthouse. In your role of lighthouse keeper, sit up on the wooden, wraparound terrace and set the fire pit ablaze. It might not be quite as hard work as the real deal, but you are on holiday after all. Let the original do its job instead while you sip margaritas around the flames, then slip into your hot tub under the stars. And outdoor adventures don’t stop there. Your host provides a kayak and paddle board so you can enjoy the open waters by your front door. Speaking of which, step inside and check out the interiors. We love the beach-hut vibe of the decor. White beams and cushions represent the ocean spray, while a pale blue sofa stands in for the sapphire waters. Wood and wicker match the sandy shores, and you’ll find nautical-themed pieces like anchor-print cushion covers and a driftwood lampstand. Ready to grab your board?

About Montauk
Dramatic cliffs overlooking Atlantic waters, mouth-watering seafood and a lively night scene have turned this formerly sleepy fishing village into a thriving vacation hotspot. Often nicknamed “The End of the World” or “Manhattan on the Rocks,” Montauk is geographically isolated but certainly worth the trek. With a rustic and nautical charm, a working lighthouse and six state parks that range from nature preserves to rolling dunes, getting outside is the...
