Found in the centre of town, a thirteen-minute walk from Lincoln's iconic Cathedral, this large family home has been restored with comfort and style in mind. Especially so, given the size of the two lounges. Add the dining area into the equation, and you can see how there's plenty of room for everyone to carve out their own space. Two pull-out beds and two single sofa beds keep sleeping arrangements flexible, although these are best for children as they're on the smaller side. 

Step out through the bifold doors onto a large patio area with garden furniture for seamless indoor and outdoor dining. Down from the patio is a large grass area and lower patio area with a Hot Tub suitable for 6-7 people. This is the perfect garden for summer socials and BBQs.

With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

We're pretty sure that you won't find many cottages cuter than this. Built at the backend of the eighteenth century, this traditional weaver's house is Grade-II listed and you can see why. Inside, the wooden ceiling beams, exposed brickwork and stable door are full of rustic charm, while a log-burning fire and antique furnishings add an extra level of cosiness. To the side of the home, there's a patio area complete with alfresco seating where you can enjoy a coffee and the surrounding tranquillity of West Yorkshire. Fans of Last of the Summer Wine — one of the longest-running sitcoms in the world — will love walking around the local town of Holmfirth where it was filmed. The Peak District is only a ten-minute drive away too if you're in the mood for a long ramble.

This is one of those homes for which first impressions can be deceiving. From the outside, the nineteenth-century stone exterior looks rather traditional, but the interior is a completely different story. Walls painted in a muted grey, wooden floors and striking monochrome portraits are as modern as they come, and the design works particularly well with the bountiful amounts of natural light from the bay windows. Pristinely designed it might be, but there's also a whole lot of fun to be had here, too. Out in the garden, there's a hot tub in which you can sit and take in the view of the Sound of Karrera. There's also a separate shed which doubles up as a games room, complete with tables for ping-pong, poker and pool. In the town of Oban, there are distilleries and seafood restaurants to visit, but as you can probably guess from the scenery, there are lots of coastal walks to embark upon too, including forty-five minutes to Ganavan Sands.

This home was once a hayloft in a former life — the original circular window on the front is so shaped for pitching hay through — but today it's a perfectly cosy space for a rural getaway. Despite this functional heritage, you can safely banish any thoughts of cramped living quarters. Illuminated by a series of skylights, guests get access to a recently refitted kitchen that is plenty big enough for cooking up hearty dinners, as well as a lounge with comfy furnishings for sprawling out upon after long country walks. There is no shortage of outdoor pursuits to undertake in North Shropshire and just across the Welsh border, including wandering along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, only twenty-four minutes away in the car. Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

This unique home was a bakery in the 1950s but it was converted by the host's parents, who both worked at the Lincoln School of Art. As well as being a day job, they also had a strong interest in artistic endeavours and they filled the interior with hand-crafted ceramics, fabrics and paintings. Today, much of their collection remains and it lends the feel of part-museum, part-period home — especially with the hardwood floors and wood-burning fireplace. The large garden is equally special too, with a pond full of frogs and plenty of lawn space on which to lie back with a book borrowed from the packed shelves in the dining room. When you fancy exploring your surroundings, the city of Lincoln is thirteen minutes away in the car, while the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be reached in just over twenty. Closer to home, there's a pub two minutes' walk around the corner.

Known locally as the Kingdom of Fife, this east coast region of Scotland is awash with historic monuments, ancient towns, sweeping beaches, and fresh sea air. While its heritage speaks volumes, there are of course plenty of built-up areas with everything a modern visitor could need.

Kinghorn offers pubs, traditional chippies, a golf course, and cute cafés, but the standout feature is the huge town hall. This Tudor-Gothic style building was built in 1826, with its ground floors having played the role of council chambers and even a prison. Secret stairways and enormous windows let you admire views of Kinghorn Beach, a seven-minute walk away. But why are we focusing solely on this historic landmark? Well, because this is your home. 

Your apartments are set over the first and second floors, with jaw-dropping, period interiors which feel regal, luxurious, and opulent. Rich red fabrics, elegant cornicing, chandeliers, solid marble fireplaces, antique furniture, gilded mirror frames – we could go on. There’s even a private walled garden at the back, where you can sit out under the stars sipping whisky and looking out over your very own kingdom.

Get far away from the madding crowd in Thomas Hardy’s Dorset with this beautiful home – it’s the perfect romantic retreat. There’s a hammock to unwind in as well. 

The sylvan setting can be admired through the French doors in the living room, too – keep your eyes peeled for visiting wildlife. At the heart of the town, a five-minute walk from the golf club, four from the 13th century St. Michaels Church, and less than a minute from your nearest pub, this cottage is ready to welcome you home. As you arrive, its rugged stone exterior oozes rural, village charm. The white door beckons you inside, where underfloor heating allows you to explore every room in warmth and comfort. Its cosy, traditional lounge features a wood-burning stove and plump leather sofas – perfect for snuggling up with a classic novel as you sip hot chocolate. Every inch of this palatial, luminous home is designed with those vistas in mind. Curl up in the sumptuous king-size bed of the main suite with a cuppa and lose yourself to the horizon. Pad out across the porcelain tiled veranda and slip into the hot tub. Bring your ensemble together on the top floor for lazy breakfasts in the vast living area, awash in deep blues and restful greys. Or come together for sunset cocktails and barbecues on the expansive terrace – the outdoor mood lighting will help set the ambience. Wherever you choose to be, those magnificent seascapes will be right there.

If you can bear to part your gaze, if just for a while,  the silky sands and charming promenade of Pendine are just a nine-minute drive away. A traditional, understated seaside resort – it's all chalets, fish'n'chips, and windbreaks – just as it should be. But be sure to make it home for dusk - the sunset views from the hot tub are out-of-this-world.

Situated in a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1878, we can't help but swoon over this Alnwick apartment. It doesn't lack character, that's for sure – vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and antique knick-knacks like typewriters and old books are in abundance. We think it's the perfect blend of old and new, and nowhere is a better example of that than the open-plan living area. Bright and roomy, there's more than enough space here to spread out and get comfortable, whether you're tucking into a feast around the table or snuggling up in front of the fire. Cooking is anything but a chore in the glossy kitchen, and on rainy days, head up to the mezzanine for board games and billiards. There's also a communal garden for the summer months, where you can sip tea in the sunshine or cocktails at twilight.

And the location is excellent, too. Alnwick is as charming as they come, sprinkled with history and magic – no wonder they filmed Harry Potter here. Spend afternoons wandering down the cobbled lanes, popping in and out of the independent shops, cafes and bookstores that line the high street. The famous Alnwick Castle is just a short walk away, while the Northumberland coast is a thirteen-minute drive. In the evenings, forgo the home-cooking for a pint, delicious pub grub and live music at one of the cosy inns in town.

Your hosts have poured their time and energy into sourcing period-specific reclaimed materials and equipping the home with antique furnishings to create a cosy and charming English escape that offers the very best of coast and country.

All that effort has clearly paid off, as evidenced by the beautiful interior. From the Victorian roll-top bath to the eighteenth-century range and the wainscotting on the walls – every effort has been made to make it feel as authentic as possible. Even the mod cons, such as the TV, are hidden away inside bread ovens that are built into the chimney so as not to shatter the illusion.

At the top of the narrow staircase is the twin bedroom, through which you enter the main bedroom – a pretty common arrangement for houses of this period.

Step outside, and you'll find a beautifully maintained nature reserve right on your doorstep. Your hosts bought it in 2015 and have spent the intervening years slowly restoring and exposing its beauty, with winding footpaths leading to conveniently placed benches, soaring Scots pine trees and ancient oaks – perfect for a reflective moment in nature or a ride on the supplied bikes.

For adventures further afield, you'll find maps detailing footpaths that run to the world-class concert hall at Snape Maltings, two-and-a-half miles away, and continue through forests and past lakes, leading all the way to the sea at Aldeburgh. 

The Miller's Cottage

This pretty 16th Century cottage is full of character and light. Relax on the large enclosed courtyard with its beautiful blossom tree and flower baskets – it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of rosé wine. At night the tree is lit up with twinkling lights giving the space a magical feel.

If it gets a bit chilly, head inside and sit next to the large inglenook fireplace with its cosy wood-burning stove. We love this room with its historic beams and antiques. If you don’t fancy eating out, rustle up a dinner using some local fresh seafood from the fisherman’s huts at Aldeburgh, a twenty-minute drive away.

Closer to home, the centre of Wickham Market is 50 yards away, where you’ll find a range of shops including a butchers, antique store and beauty salon, as well as an arts centre. There are a couple of restaurants here as well as a fish n’ chips shop, while there are many pubs nearby, including one in the village of Ufford, a one to two-hour walk from the cottage (or a four-minute drive). Your lovely hosts provide bikes for free, too, if you want to explore the area on two wheels.


Chaffinch Cottage

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss.
