Putting its best foot forward with a modern, design-led interior, this former 19th-century Methodist chapel can host friends or two couples in style. Close to the leafy Hampstead Heath and within reach of several train stations, you'll be exploring London in no time. We like the mezzanine bedrooms – although it lacks some privacy – and arched windows let in plenty of light, ideal for breakfasts at the table or days at home. Great location and minimally luxurious? Tick and tick. And if you'd like help with a private chef or restaurant reservation, that can be arranged, too.

This breath of fresh air has awarded the area a newly glowing reputation, becoming popular for its affordable pubs, one-off retailers and light-filled yoga studios. The Irish-run Boston Arms is a particularly well-loved...
