You'll feel at one with nature when you stay at this cabin on over 5 acres of lush woodland in the heart of the Catskills. If you have kids with you, they'll be enthralled with the children's playhouse. The spacious wraparound deck is the place to be in spring, summer and autumn – the perfect spot to listen to the birdsong or the seasonal stream running alongside this home. Inside, it's rustic, and you have to like wood, but it's cosy. All the bedrooms are compact, and the upstairs ones (accessed via a spiral staircase) have slanted ceilings, so they won't suit tall guests. When you feel like exploring, the iconic Red Hill Fire Tower is under ten minutes by car.

The decor and the aesthetics are not quite up to Plum Guide's usual standards – we've made an exception to let this one into the collection on account of its beautiful location in the Catskills.
