Vaulted ceilings and original tiles underfoot are a nod to this 18th-century home’s former glory, and keep things naturally cool inside. Each bedroom has its own style and there’s a dedicated office room for those working remotely. But it’s the outdoor space that captivated us, with a big swimming pool carved from local stone and loads of comfortable places to catch the sun (or laze in the shade) on patios and terraces. This villa is in the centre of Diso, a historical Salento village two kilometres from the sea with a small shop and cafes within walking distance.

Home truths

While this home is all on one level, the gardens and patios are connected by various steps and staircases. This place may not suit those with limited mobility.

The swimming pool is only available for use between April and November.

The swimming pool isn't fenced. If you're bringing little ones, they'll need to be supervised at all times.

Pets are welcome here, just let your host know beforehand.

While you're in a village with a small shop and cafes within walking distance, there is plenty of private parking within the grounds.

Host

This home is managed by Gaia & Pietro

This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Pietro and Gaia are a delight - he’s a painter and responsible for a lot of the art on display, and she’s done all manner of things work-wise, and is a qualified architect and tailor. They own a handful of homes across Italy that they rent out and so are extremely experienced hosts. Though it might not always be them checking you in - they often use a lockbox system - they are always available via phone for their guests if they have any questions, great or small.

This home is nominated for the Plum Guide Award.

  • Great hosts, not just great homes – We reject homes managed by hosts who don’t meet our standards of excellence.
