Like something out of a fairy tale, this gatehouse stands guard on a Grade I listed estate in Herefordshire. From the embattled walls to the iron gate, the exterior oozes heritage. Step inside, however, and you'll find cosy interiors packed with a range of contemporary comforts. Steep wooden stairs lead up to the living area, where a log burner invites you to unwind with a glass of wine. On summer evenings, pad out to the rooftop terrace for views that span across the countryside towards neighbouring Wales. There's also a private garden as well as a pub down the road – everything you need and more.

All three bedrooms are on the ground floor, while the living space and kitchen are on the first level. The wooden stairs to the first floor are very steep, so please take care.

Your host can provide a travel cot, high chair, and stairgate upon request. Please bring your own linen for the cot.

The second bedroom has a king-size bed that can be split into two small singles. Please give your host at least 7 days' notice if you'd prefer to have this room set up as twins.

A culvert runs along one side of the garden. During wet weather, this will have water in it – parents should ensure children are supervised.
