Modern and practical, this home suits a family keen to explore Sintra and the Portuguese coast. It's contemporary inside and out – although it lacks a few cosier touches, it's awash in natural light. The second bedroom is snug and features a pull-out trundle ideal for children. But the garden is a nice bonus, with a private swimming pool, playground, and views across the countryside. Location-wise, this home sits just outside Colares. Head west, and you'll hit Praia da Adraga. Or, drive east to visit Sintra's magical palaces and colourful castles.

Although this home is spread across a single level, there are some steps in the garden.
The bedrooms are missing some curtains. If you're hoping to enjoy a lie-in, you might want to pack an eye mask.
