Perched above the Ligurian Sea in Albisola Superiore, this villa was originally built as an aristocratic summer retreat – and it still feels like one. Century-old Art Nouveau details, herringbone floors, and a marble fireplace give the interiors real character, while the terraced botanic garden below leads down to a private palm-fringed pool. A covered eating area with a wood oven makes alfresco dining an easy daily ritual. The beach, restaurants, and train connections are all within walking distance, so you have the Ligurian coast at your feet without sacrificing the seclusion of a garden to yourself.

Home truths
The villa spans four levels connected by internal staircases so you'll be using the stairs a lot here.
Air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms. The top floor bedrooms have portable air conditioning units. The living areas, kitchen, and games room are not air-conditioned, so summer afternoons may feel warm on those floors.
The pool is seasonal – it's open from the first Saturday in April to the last Saturday in October. If you're visiting outside those dates, it won't be available.
The twin bedroom on the top floor doubles up as a study.
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair. You'll need to request them in advance.
There's parking for three cars on site, with two gated driveways – handy if you're arriving as a group in multiple vehicles.
