It’s not every day you get to stay in a historic chateau in the grounds of a working vineyard – so this home is a little bit special. Built in the early 1400s, the castle’s heritage is evident around every corner (see the timber beams and turreted towers). It’s been lovingly restored to offer all the comforts you need, along with a few little extras. By the poolside, you’ll find a converted barn with a bar and an air-conditioned gym, and there’s also a games room and yoga pavilion. Wine-lovers will be particularly fond of the location too – it’s a short drive from Saint-Émilion’s UNESCO-listed vineyards, and a great base for exploring the Bordeaux region.

Home truths

  • While some of the bathrooms aren't photographed, expect the style and quality to be consistent with the rest of the home.

  • Air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms and the gym.

  • Bedrooms two and three form a family suite that shares an en-suite bathroom.

  • There's a sofa bed in the study that can sleep one additional guest on request.

  • If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair for free. You'll need to request them in advance.

  • Given the age of this home, it has low beams and doorways, sloping ceilings, and spiral stone staircases. The rooms are also set over three floors, so it might not be the best option for those with reduced mobility.

  • This home is part of a working vineyard, so you may encounter farm machinery during your stay and some of the outbuildings aren't accessible to guests.

  • Due to this home's location, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay. Parking is available.

Host

This home is managed by Oliver

This home is managed by a business on behalf of its owner. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Nearly twenty years ago, Oliver and his friend began curating the world's most unique and rustic getaways. Driven by their own unforgettable experience at a chateau, they have grown remarkably since then. Much like Plum, they believe in hand-picked luxury that doesn't break the bank.

This home is nominated for the Plum Guide Award.
