This apartment set beside the lesser-known (but no less glitzy) Lake Lugano has to be seen to be believed. Housed in an 18th-century villa, the original frescoes and terrazzo flooring are impressive, as are the views of the lake and mountains seen from a private, partially covered dining and seating terrace. Set in a pedestrianised area, it’s blissfully quiet here. Yet you’re just a short walk from Osteno, with its authentic trattorias and bars. Meanwhile, Lake Lugano is just twenty minutes on foot. Why not charter a boat to hop over to the Swiss city of Lugano for the day? Known as the Monte Carlo of Switzerland, you’ll be in good company.
