Within walking distance of this elegant apartment, you’ll find an array of cultural attractions including the Place des Vosges and a variety of galleries and museums. There’s a range of restaurants and a bakery a short walk away, too, which is convenient as this home has a small kitchenette. The lounge is on the compact side as well, but the bedrooms are roomy, and all have en-suites. The highlight for us here, along with the address, has to be the balcony with its views across a typically Parisian street – this place is the ideal base for a break in Paris.

Home truths

The narrow balcony has room for a table and chairs and is accessed from one of the bedrooms.

Only one of the en-suites has a toilet, the other bedrooms share a separate WC.

You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.

There's room for four guests only at the dining table.

There's no dryer here, but there is a drying rack.

If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a travel cot for free. You'll need to request it in advance.

Its crowning glory is the parc des Buttes Chaumont, one of the capital's most popular parks, and even has its own open-air graffiti gallery in rue Dunoyez. It's now home to photographers, sculptors and artists in general as well as families. Belleville's heart however is working class and is...
