Once a hideout for the Knights Templar, this 12th-century Provençal estate is now more about poolside lounging than crusading. Think four-poster beds, spiral staircases and cosy nooks carved into ancient stone – all the medieval drama, with the added bonus of a private spa, home cinema and outdoor pool. There are three kitchens if you’re feeding a crowd, or bring in a private chef and let the feast come to you. With vineyards on your doorstep, the sea a short drive away and room for the whole gang to stretch out in style, this place makes history feel seriously indulgent.
