You're a world away from everyday life at this 18th-century French villa, spread over two stone buildings and an annexe. Once a silk farm, you (thankfully) won't find any silkworms here today, but the four-hectare garden and surrounding forest are a haven for wildlife – including the on-site caretaker's two friendly dogs. The property's traditional character – exposed beams, uneven steps – isn't for everyone, but you can't deny there's a charm to alfresco dining under an ancient wisteria tree. Twice a week, you can pick up local produce at the market in La Garde Freinet, just 6 km away. Or, experience French Riviera luxury at the glamorous restaurants and beachside bars in Port Grimaud or Saint-Tropez.

Home truths
This home is spread across two houses and an annexe. Each house has its own living area and kitchen. Please note that the ground floor of the annexe is closed to guests.
Bedroom four is accessed via an external staircase and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Steps and uneven levels are present around the two homes and the garden.
Bedrooms two and three share a 'Jack and Jill' bathroom.
Due to this home's rural location, we recommend having a car. Access is via a 2.5 km unmade dirt track unsuitable for low-slung cars. You may find roadworks taking place during your stay.
A caretaker and two dogs live approximately 50m from the property in a separate house, but be cautious if you have pet allergies.
While some bathrooms haven't been photographed, we expect the style and quality to be consistent with the rest of the home.
If you require a cot and high chair, you can request them in advance. Watch little ones around the pool, though – it isn't fenced.
