Designed in the 1980s with floor-to-ceiling windows framing a sweep of Marche hills, this villa sits just 2km from the centre of Ascoli Piceno – close enough for a leisurely drive into town, but far enough to feel completely away from it all. Outside, a salt-water pool looks out over the countryside, while a masonry pergola with a built-in barbecue and wood-fired oven makes alfresco evenings genuinely hard to leave. The Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic coast are both within easy reach, making this a strong base whether you're after hiking, beaches, or simply the rolling hills.

Home truths
Air conditioning is only available in the bedrooms here – the living areas, kitchen, and dining room are not cooled, so bear that in mind if you're visiting in the height of summer.
The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October, so if you're travelling outside those dates you won't be able to use it.
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair.
The villa sits about 2 km from the centre of Ascoli Piceno, so you'll want a car to get around comfortably – the good news is there's ample free parking on site, with spaces near the entrance and additional spots by the pool.
Several beds across the villa can be reconfigured – the main bedroom's double can be separated into singles, and the twin beds in one of the first-floor rooms can be joined into a double. Let your host know your preferences before you arrive.
For those with reduced mobility, there's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom here.
