Just a few steps from the beach huts and peaceful shoreline of Norman’s Bay, this 18th-century fisherman’s cottage is postcard-perfect. Inside, you’ll find plenty of character and a log-burning fireplace for cosy nights in. But as with any heritage home, it comes with a few quirks. Taller guests may need to duck under low beams, and the shared garden might not appeal to everyone. That said, the unbeatable location more than makes up for it. Spend your days exploring Bexhill-on-Sea, Brighton, and Eastbourne – all within easy reach. Or stay local – a shop and a pub are a short walk away, and at low tide, the sandy shores are perfect for long coastal walks.

Home truths

There is off-road private parking for two cars at this cottage, although a car isn't a necessity. The hamlet of Norman’s Bay has a train station, and there’s a shop and pub within walking distance (a ten-minute walk across the nearby Pevensey Level).

Like many of the cottages of this era, the bathroom is on the ground floor, and there's restricted head height in places.

Direct access to the bedrooms is via a steep, narrow staircase. You’ll need to take particular care when stepping out of the twin bedroom. This home may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or children under five years of age.

Floor space is tight in the twin bedroom.

You’ll share the garden with the adjoining cottage, although each home has its own outdoor dining area. Compared to the property’s immaculate interiors, we think the shared garden areas feel a little tired.

A starter pack for the wood-burning stove is provided.

About East Sussex

For centuries this historical landscape has seen novelists and poets alike ponder through the sprawling countryside and cobblestone streets, chasing that Old-World feel that’s otherwise extinct in modern cities. Woolf and her Bloomsbury group of intellects often escaped to the unspoilt beauty of Sussex (Charleston) in pursuit of creative inspiration, with Woolf herself residing in Monk’s House until her husband's death. James, Blake and Constable would also peer over the...
