New Cross is an often overlooked part of town which is now finally getting its due. The local art students from Goldsmiths (Damien Hirst, Sam Taylor-Johnson and Steve McQueen are all alumni) have brought an interesting mix of pop-up cafés, restaurants and music events to the area. This edgy, bohemian atmosphere have set the inevitable gentrification process in motion (where artists go, everyone else eventually follows) but fear not, New Cross still has some grit and character to it.
