Built on stilts in the Paradise Point area of Port Aransas, this beach house is designed around the pleasures of being outside – a private pool, sun loungers, an outdoor fireplace, and a barbecue patio with views over the nature preserve and a sunset backdrop. The raised construction catches the sea breeze, and the layout works well for groups, with two king suites each offering a private en-suite bathroom alongside a bunk room suited to older children. The beach is just seven to eight blocks away, and there's on-site boat parking for anyone planning fishing or watersports trips.

Home truths
The fourth bedroom has a double-over-double bunk bed, plus an additional pull-out double bed, sleeping up to six people in total. We think this room works best for children.
Port Aransas is a coastal island, so wi-fi and cable outages do occur from time to time. If you're working remotely, factor in the possibility of intermittent connectivity.
Mosquitoes and other insects can be common on the island at certain times of year. The home is treated by professional pest control every four to eight weeks, but it's worth packing repellent for evening time on the patio.
There's free parking for up to four cars on the driveway.
