Tucked into a private woodland on the banks of the River Wye, this cottage puts you right on the water – two kayaks and life vests sit ready on the riverbank whenever you want them, and direct river access means wild swimming and fishing are equally on the cards. Every room looks out over the river, and a historic hand ferry crossing is a three-minute walk away, operating spring through autumn. Goodrich Castle's Norman ruins are about fourteen minutes by car, while scenic walking trails begin from the doorstep, with country pubs close behind.

Home truths
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair. Request them in advance to make sure everything is ready on arrival.
You'll need to bring your own fishing rod licence if you plan to fish the Wye – it's not something your host can arrange for you.
If you drive an electric vehicle, note that the on-site charger requires a 7-metre cable – bring your own if yours is shorter.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the site, inside or outside – the woodland setting and timber-clad exterior make this a strict rule.
For those with reduced mobility, there's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom here.
