Perched inside a centuries-old stone tower atop Calton Hill, this apartment is one of Edinburgh's most unforgettable places to stay. The interiors match the drama of the setting – think Gothic arched windows, turreted ceilings, and a perfect blend of historic character and contemporary comfort. If you'd like a bit more privacy, the third bedroom is tucked away in a lower-level apartment with its own living area and kitchen. Step outside and Nelson's Monument is practically at arm's length, with panoramic views across the city in every direction. The Royal Mile, Scott Monument, and Edinburgh Castle are all within easy reach on foot – provided you're happy to tackle a few hills along the way.

Home truths

  • The home sits within an open public site on Calton Hill, one of Edinburgh's most popular viewpoints. During the day you'll have tourists passing close to the windows, and at busier times the surrounding grounds can feel quite lively. The area quietens considerably once the site closes in the evening.

  • Getting here involves a steep uphill climb with steps – it's not suitable if you or anyone in your group has mobility issues, and arriving with heavy luggage takes some effort. There are two flights of stairs inside, and steps lead to the front door of the ground-floor apartment.

  • Please note that this home is equipped with a sensor that monitors smoke, decibel levels, and occupancy. It's camera-free and doesn't record sound or store personal data.

  • The third bedroom and bathroom are set in the lower-ground-floor apartment with a ceiling height of 2 metres.

About Hillside

Edinburgh is a city built around seven hills, but Hillside is not as steep as the name suggests. At the east end of the New Town and nestled just below Calton Hill, it’s quieter than the historic centre but still within walking distance from all the main points of interest. It’s fast becoming one of the most sought-after property locations in Edinburgh thanks to its central location and its aesthetically-pleasing...
