Sleeping inside an A-listed wing of Sir Walter Scott's baronial castle in the Scottish Borders is a rare thing – and this castle delivers it with real character. Eight individually named bedrooms, a wood-panelled library, and a games room with a full-size snooker table give large groups plenty of room to spread out. Step outside into the sheltered stone courtyard, and after the visitors leave, the formal gardens are yours alone – with the River Tweed glittering just beyond.

From March to December, Abbotsford operates as a visitor attraction, with Scott's historic rooms open to the public during the day. The estate and woodland are also accessible to visitors, though your accommodation remains private and the formal gardens are yours exclusively after the attraction closes.
If you're travelling with a baby or toddler, your host can provide a cot, high chair, and children's dinnerware. Mention it when you book so everything is ready on arrival.
