Perched at the edge of a hidden valley on a private 500-acre estate in the Chilterns AONB, this shepherd's hut earns its views. Outside, a sunken cedar hot tub overlooks open countryside, and evenings by the fire pit – with mist drifting across the valley below – almost feel cinematic. Inside, leather armchairs flank a wood burner, and a copper bathtub waits in the bathroom. Henley-on-Thames is under fifteen minutes away for riverside dining, but with bicycles, estate trails, and a shared games barn on the doorstep, you may never want to leave.

Home truths
Due to this home's location, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay. You're deep in the Chiltern countryside here, well away from shops and services, so stock up before you arrive. The welcome hamper will get you started, but plan your provisions for the full stay.
The hut sits at the top of a hill inside a private estate, and the track up requires a 4x4 ideally. If you're arriving in a standard car, you'll park at the farm and your host will drive you up to the hut.
The games barn and tennis court are roughly a five-minute walk downhill from the hut, so factor in the return climb each time you head back up.
The hut is self-catering with a compact two-ring hob, microwave, fridge, and sink – perfectly workable for simple meals, but not set up for elaborate cooking. The barbecue and hot plate outside make a great alternative on fine evenings.
The only way to get clean here is a long soak – there's no shower, just a bathtub.

Home to charming market towns, idyllic villages and plenty of trails to ramble and roam, the Chilterns are where you'll find some of the finest countryside in the UK. While the gorgeous views, chalk grassland and acres of woodland designate the hills as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,...
