Set along iconic Rua das Flores in Lisbon’s Chiado district, the location of this apartment is spot-on. You’ll find plenty of great restaurants and shops along this lively street, while the city’s major sights are all within walking distance (albeit hilly). Housed in a historic building, the apartment retains its elegant period façade and entrance hall, while the interiors have been thoughtfully updated for modern living. A sofa bed in the living room offers a flexible sleeping set-up for larger groups. There’s also a small balcony with a glimpse of the sea.

Chiado is full of old-world charm, and is one of the best-loved parts of Lisbon. Think pastel-hued homes, cobbled streets and plenty of squares to soak up the atmosphere. There’s a slower pace of life in Chiado, which is why it’s so popular with locals. Hop on a tram to take in the open-air ruin of the Camo church, a Gothic masterpiece that was mostly destroyed in an earthquake, or hit the shops – this is one of Lisbon’s best shopping districts, after all.
