Tucked into Carnelian Bay between Tahoe City and Incline Village, this house puts the Lake Tahoe shoreline within walking distance and both Northstar and Diamond Peak ski resorts close at hand. Behind the home, mountain bike trails, sledding hills, and forested paths begin immediately – so the outdoors is never more than a few steps away. Inside, a great room anchored by a fireplace draws the whole group together, while the wraparound deck is the natural destination for alfresco evenings in the alpine air.

Local guide
About Carnelian Bay
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
