Ski-in/ski-out access with the chairlift right next to the apartment makes this Telluride retreat hard to beat for mountain convenience. Inside, a wood-framed bed and leather sofa create a lodge warmth, with peaks framing the view beyond the shared porch – and the box canyon backdrop is particularly striking at dusk. After a day on the slopes, the communal hot tub does exactly what you need it to. Historic downtown Telluride is five blocks away on foot, and the Valley Floor trails are easily walkable, so the mountains are just as rewarding when you're not on skis.

And in the summer, the hiking trails can provide just as much activity. Aside from the outdoor activities, Telluride is a great place to experience the charm of the Old West. It has a more casual, unfussy vibe than more famous spots like Aspen, but there are still plenty of elegant dining and drinking options.
