Perched on a southwest-facing bank above Puget Sound, this Whidbey Island house is built around water views – from the entertainment deck where a hot tub and gas fire pit face the Olympic Mountains, to the dining area and bedrooms that frame the same outlook. A private stairway leads down to more than four miles of sandy beach, a three-to-four minute walk away, while South Whidbey State Park old-growth forest trails start practically at the door. A detached recreation room packed with games makes it equally easy to stay put.

There's free parking for up to five cars on the driveway.
The driveway runs along a long dirt road that sits high in the middle. If you're arriving in a sports car or a car with a low ride height, it's worth planning ahead.
At full occupancy, one guest will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
The games room is an unheated converted garage, and the apartment has no air conditioning. Both are perfectly usable, but factor that into who sleeps or spends time where.
The lead guest must be at least 21 years old.
Getting down to the beach means navigating roughly 100 steps – a three-to-four-minute moderate-to-steep descent.
Whidbey Island is home to a naval air base, and on a few weekdays each month – occasionally into the evening – you may hear loud jet training overhead. The Navy doesn't fly on weekends or holidays, and typically publishes its schedule a week in advance.
