Tucked into the hills outside Truckee, this mountain house is built for big gatherings and slow mornings in equal measure. Vaulted ceilings and a stone fireplace anchor the main living and dining area, where two large tables can seat the whole group beneath a sweep of windows. The wraparound deck extends that sense of openness outside, with space for alfresco dining alongside quieter balconies for anyone wanting a moment to themselves. Two of the bedrooms earn their keep with two-way fireplaces visible from both bed and en-suite bath. Northstar, Palisades Tahoe, and Sugar Bowl are all within reach, with Prosser Lake less than ten miles away.

Home truths
There is active construction directly next to the home, running Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
At full occupancy, you'll need to make use of two rollaway beds here. We think they're best suited to children.
Due to this home's location, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay. There are five parking spaces on the premises, split between the driveway and the garage.
There is no air conditioning here, so summer stays can get warm – ceiling fans are available across the home to help.
The outdoor furniture, barbecue, and other alfresco amenities are only available from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
This home is in bear country, so all rubbish must be securely bagged before going into the bear box outside.
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair at no additional cost. You'll need to request them in advance.
One of the bathrooms does not have a fully waterproof floor, so please use the shower curtain properly.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south.
