Tucked among the pines above Lake Tahoe, this house impresses in every season. The living area centres on a stone fireplace – the natural gathering point after a day on the water or tackling the slopes at Homewood Mountain Resort, just a five-minute drive away. Outside, the deck puts you at eye level with the trees, and come evening, the fire pit pulls everyone together under the stars. A game room downstairs keeps the mood easy on quieter nights, while Chambers Landing lake access is only a four-minute drive for those who'd rather be on the water.

Home truths
There is no air conditioning here, so summer stays will rely on natural ventilation and the home's elevation. The heating system will keep you comfortable during colder mountain nights.
One of the bedrooms has a single-over-double bunk bed that can sleep up to three people – we think it might be best suited to children.
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair. You'll need to request them in advance.
The back deck, barbecue, fire pit, and other outdoor furniture are only available between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you're visiting outside that window, you won't have access to the outdoor dining or barbecue setup.
There's free parking for up to four cars on the driveway.
