Tucked into a quiet, tree-lined neighbourhood on Lake Tahoe's north shore, this A-frame-inspired cabin trades the ordinary mountain rental for something with real presence – twenty-foot cathedral ceilings, picture windows, and a thermostat-controlled fireplace that earns its keep in every season. Outside, a hot tub and sauna sit among the pines, while the wraparound redwood deck is built for long alfresco evenings. Waterman's Landing beach, with paddleboard rentals, is half a mile away – close enough to make a spontaneous swim entirely plausible.

About Carnelian Bay
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
